When replacing the Safety Solenoid that retracts the Safety Pawls when the hoist is travelling downwards, you MUST order the correct voltage.
There are only two voltages that were used on the Portalifts, 415v and 110v.
All hoists built up to May 1999 were 415v.
Most hoists built between May 1998 and October 2007 were 110v, but some 415v systems were built to match earlier voltages.
All Portalift Hoists with On Post Control were 415v, but over time 415v hoists were matched to 110v cabinets, merely by changing the solenoids. So, to be sure what the voltage is you need to check.
Turn off the power to the hoists and remove the power supply from the wall. Remove the solenoid from the hoist. There is a sticker on the solenoid that tells what voltage it is. If this is missing, you need to go to the second way of telling.
Remove the front cover to the Control Cabinet.
Look inside on the floor. If you see a transformer, then the hoists are using a 110v system. If there is nothing on the floor of the cabinet, then it is a 415v system
If you put a 415v solenoid in a110v system, nothing will happen and it won’t work either.
If you put a 110v solenoid in a 415v system, it will destroy the solenoid. Choose carefully.
