Replacing Chains on Portalift Hoists

Endurequip Portlift Hoist Chains use specific changes that are Grade T80, Calibrated and Hoisting Chain.

The chains specified for use on Portalift Lifting Hoists are very specific.

Portalift Chains are

    • Grade T80
    • Calibrated
    • Hoisting Chain

A “lifting” chain is not suited for use on a Portalift Hoist.

Australian Standards 2550.9:1996 states that chains must be inspected for wear at each service.

The wear on the chains should be recorded at each service.

Special Portalift Chain Requirements

The chain supplied by Endurequip Hoists is manufactured according to DIN EN 818 – Parts 1&7 – 2002 and is of a ‘calibrated’ type required for use with the driven pocket chain wheel.

This type of chain has a high level of dimensional accuracy over the entire length of chain to enable optimum fit, smooth and low wear running conditions with the pocket wheel.

The chain supplied for use in Endurequip Hoists also has specific tolerances and a calibration to match the Portalift pocket wheel.

Only Genuine RUD manufactured chain Pt. 62162 or Pt. 7997953 is recommended.

Non-Conforming Chain

The fitment of other types of chain, such as Grade T (80) lifting chain manufactured to AS23210 2014, are generally not calibrated and are not recommended for use with the Endurequip Hoists.

This type of chain is manufactured to general link dimensions and tolerances, but not to dimensional accuracy over a series of specified chain links. The result is a chain which does not seat correctly within the pocket wheel during the lifting and lowering conditions.

The fitment of this type of chain with the Portalift pocket wheel can result in noisy operation, high wear rate, damage to the Portalift unit and personal injury which must be avoided.

Warranty

The use of non conforming chain in Portalift units other than as specified by Endurequip Hoists will void warranty.

Check chain wear with chain gauge.

The maximum allowable wear of the chain is measured over 11 links of chain.  The chain gauge is a pre-set to the maximum allowable wear.

Measure the links on all accessible drops of chain, with a minimum of 5 drops being measured. Should 11 links on any one drop of chain reach or exceed the tips of the chain gauge, the hoist must be de-commissioned and a new chain fitted before re-commissioning of the of hoist. Refer figure 9.

Portalift Hoist chains are manufactured according to DIN EN 818 Parts 1 & 7:2002 and is a “calibrated” type required for use when used with a matched drive sprocket.

Chain Gauges can be purchase through Endurequip Services. The Chain Gauge can only be used with chains that meet Endurequip Hoists’ chain specifications.

The fitment of non-conforming chains voids warranty.
